Delivery Access

A vital question when ordering a storage shed; How much room do you need to get the building in?  A basic rule of thumb when ordering a structure is that we will need a minimum of 1 foot larger than the structure on all sides when bringing in the building.

By 1 foot larger that does not necessarily mean the size of the building, as you need to be made aware that some structures have overhangs which will increase the needed amount of space that we will need.  You also have to account for obstacles that are in proximity to the delivery path.  Since the shed is arriving in one piece we need the clearance to span the length of the structure.

If you are leery about the building being able to fit, then you are welcome to call one of our locations.  The manager will either take the time to come out to view the property, or in circumstances in which you are a couple of hours away they may ask you to e-mail pictures.

If we are unable to fit the building then rest assured, as all of our structures are available in kit forms and can be assembled on site for an additional charge.  Feel free to give us a call to talk about it more, or to schedule a time for one of our managers to come out and visit your property.

Storage Shed Lumber Quality

This can be a topic that as a consumer may never cross your mind.  A shed is a shed, all sheds are the same, all wood is the same - Wrong.

Many shed retailers or manufactures try to utilize lesser quality lumber in an attempt to cut their costs and add profitability to their bottom line.  They will never tell the customer this, or will talk around this topic and redirect your question to another aspect of their buildings.

Lumber quality has a huge impact on how a product is made.  Lumber is broken down into different grades, the lower number of the grade of lumber is a higher quality.  The better grade means less knots, less warping, and a stronger product.

This is the reason that at Pine Creek Structures we only utilize #2 or better premium grade lumber.  We need to ensure that the storage sheds will withstand the harsh New England Winters, and strong summer storms.  Other companies tend to use a lesser quality lumber, and staple shingles and collar ties.  We choose not to skimp on less expensive lumber, and nail these components to ensure longevity.

Shed Siding - Vinyl Vs. LP

Many customers often are torn between choosing the type of siding that they want.  We offer many different choices, such as cedar ship lap, board and batten, LP, vinyl siding, and log siding.  The two most popular are the LP siding along with the vinyl siding, so here's the run down.

Vinyl siding is a maintance free solution.  Unlike other different styles you will NEVER have to paint this product.  This results in a very popular choice among our patrons who want a shed and never want to have to worry about it.

Our vinyl siding is available in 8 standard colors as well as 13 optional colors in which additional charges may apply(you also have the option to match the siding color of your home!).  The product is backed by a limited lifetime warranty and a 50 year transferable warranty which protects it from manufacturing defects as well as excessive fading.

The biggest question when I mention the phrase, LP siding, is; What is LP?  Great questions because there is no reason for you to know what LP siding is!  LP is an engineered smart siding from Louisiana Pacific.  The product is a zinc borate infused OSB which is note prone to absorb waters or oils, is termite proof, resists fungal decay, is a natural insect repellent, and is basically the best wood based product on the market.

This is a paintable product in which we utilize Haley Paints.  This siding holds a 5/50 prorated warranty and it literally tough as nails,  Through the manufacturing process the fillers and glue create a greater density than conventional plywood.  This means a tighter product that will last for an excessively long time.

There are 19 colors to choose from, but here in Plainville we offer 7,000 colors so if you want to match your home you have the ability to.  So at the end of the day you may ask which do I want.

LP siding is less expensive than vinyl, but you WILL have to paint your shed at some point.  Unless you have small children then they will be painting the shed in 10 years, as that is the warranty on the paint.  If you are wanting to match the exact color of your building then usually LP is a far more cost effective way to do so.

All in all you want something that will look nice in your yard today, tomorrow, and when you sell.  In either case you will receive an exceptional product so it is really about personal preference and long term goals.

Organizing Your Shed

So you realized that you need a shed, you have done your research, and now you are ready to order.  A few things to keep in mind is how you want to set your new shed up.  At Pine Creek Structures, there are many ways to keep your building organized.

Shelves are a great option to add to a gable end of your building.  Not only are you now able to keep the smaller items such as paint, pool supplies, fertilizer and what not off the ground, but you are adding significant space to your building.  Two shelves will give you an additional 20 square feet on a 10 wide building.  This also nets your cost per square foot down on a massive scale.

Many customers wish to add a storage loft for overhead seasonal items such  as holiday decorations which are only used once a year.  The biggest thing to keep in mind is the style of the structure.  If you have a Peak style shed with a 5/12 roof pitch you are not going to achieve the same amount of storage capabilities as you would with a Dutch barn.

One of my favorite options to help you stay organized is peg board.  In my opinion there is no such thing as too much peg board.  With this inexpensive add on you are now able to keep all of your tools organized in a tidy manner.  I recommend to customers that they should label the peg board, as the saying goes, a place for everything and everything in it's place.

Keep Your Tax Return

It's that time of year again, tax time.  Most Americans look forward to a nice tax return, most accountants dread the countless hours that have to be put into meeting deadlines.

At Pine Creek Structures, we want people to keep their return.  That is why we offer multiple avenues to obtain the storage shed you need, while keeping the money which you also need.

The first option we offer, and by far the most popular, is our Rent To Own with no credit check.  You come in and decide on the building you need within $8,000.  Put a down a small payment and then pay monthly.  Basically, for every $1,000 your shed cost, your monthly payment will be around $50.  We require 2 months down on most buildings, 4 payments on all horse barns, dog kennels, chicken coops, and play sets.  

Want to pay it off early?  No problem.  You simply contact Good Shepherd Rentals, give them your account number, and pay off the balance on the storage shed.  The best part is, automatic deductions from either a credit card or checking account on the 15th of every month, starting after you receive delivery, so there is no need to mail a check every month.

Secondly, we have a lay away program.  You choose the shed and place a 10% deposit down.  The balance is due within 90 days, at which time we will schedule a delivery.  

Lastly we offer financing through GE money which is approved after a credit check.  Throughout the year, GE offers different programs, such as 0% for 12 months, 6 months same as cash, ect.

By offering different options, your money stays where it belongs, in your wallet.  You still are able to obtain the structure you want, clean out that garage or basement, and at the same time stay within budget.

I recently had an issue with a package I ordered from the largest online company in the world.  So I decided to call to inquire about it's whereabouts.  What I was expecting; long hold time, press 1 for English, your call is important to us, please hold.

Instead, the phone rang once, and an actual person answered.  I was blown away that this billion dollar company actually understood the importance of customer service, as well as the high likelihood that by providing such exceptional service your bottom line is directly impacted with a positive result.

That is one of the reasons that Pine Creek Structures is customer oriented.  I tell people all of the time, anyone can take someones money, but if the delivery of products or services is not rendered to the customers liking, that the lasting impression of your business is a negative one.

LP Siding

One of the greatest benefits that Pine Creek Structures has to offer is the LP SmartSide products.  The process begins with either wood strands or wood fiber.  The material is then infused with a zinc borate compound which makes the siding resilient to the absorption of water and oils, while acts as a natural insect repellent.  Layer after layer of wood strands are added and compressed, until the desired thickness is reached.

The siding is superior to traditional T-111 siding, in so much that they offer a 5/50 year warranty.  For 5 years LP will replace the siding including all labor associated with the work, and for 45 years they offer a prorated warranty.

LP products are so strong and durable, that we actual utilize their products on our floors.  Standard 5/8" thickness on storage sheds, and 3/4" tongue and groove on all garages.  After all, your building is only as strong as the base.

The Madison Series

One of our newer style sheds that we offer is the Madison Series. Last year in CT this was by far our most popular style of buildings. The main reason for our customers choosing this model is made up of two parts. Affordable pricing is a determining factor as well as unsurpassed quality.

We are able to cut costs and pass the savings onto you with a different interior construction. All walls and roofs are framed out with 2x3 construction 24" on center. Less lumber equates to a lower price point. Lower prices point means more money stays in your pocket, where it belongs.

The base consists of pressure treated 4x4 runners, then 2x4 pressure treated floor joists 16" on center, and lastly a zinc borate treated floor which makes it resistant to the absorption of water, oils, and termites. . The siding is an LP Smart Panel which holds a 50 year warranty and is also treated with a zinc borate.

Lastly, as with all of our buildings the shingles are lifetime Timberline GAF shingles. Not only is it America's # 1 selling Architectural shingle, it holds a Class A fire rating from UL, and is rated to 70 mph winds. Shed Deliveries

As far as deliveries are concerned, there are a few things to keep in mind. First and foremost is access. Is there enough room? When we arrive with your storage shed, it is on a trailer that is 22 feet long, being pulled by a Ford F550.  Typically we need an opening four feet larger than your storage shed. So if you ordered a 10' wide shed, we would ideally like to have 14' of width, being the space between your house and your neighbors, an opening in a fence, between trees, ect. Once we pass through the opening, we need to ensure that there is enough room to navigate.

With smaller structures we have the opportunity to place the building right on the back of our truck. This allows for us to negotiate tighter turns, but does limit us in some ways. Our trailer permits us to position the shed exactly where you want it, as well as spin the structure 90 degrees. When utilizing the truck, we lose such privileges.

Why write about hinges, why not? Lets face it, the doors on your shed are going to be used more than any other feature on your building. They will be left open on windy days, the kids will swing on them, and they are on the front line against those who wish to obtain access to your possessions.

That is why we use piano hinges on all of our heavy duty Duratemp sided buildings. The hinge spans the entire length of the door, which allows for the weight of the door to be dispersed evenly, rather than have three points that will absorb the abuse.

The piano hinge makes it much harder to gain access to your storage shed. Traditional hinges can be removed with nine screws.  Once the hinges are removed, the door can be taken off, and your assets just turned into an insurance claim, and became someone else's assets.

Behind the trim are 15-20 screws on each hinge. This means you can go to your local outdoor store, fill out the form, wait three days, pick up your firearm, and still be home before all of the screws are removed!! Piano hinges on our sheds are also aluminum which means they will never rust. You will never have to worry about rust stains over time which are nearly impossible to remove.
