Storage Shed Lumber Quality

This can be a topic that as a consumer may never cross your mind.  A shed is a shed, all sheds are the same, all wood is the same - Wrong.

Many shed retailers or manufactures try to utilize lesser quality lumber in an attempt to cut their costs and add profitability to their bottom line.  They will never tell the customer this, or will talk around this topic and redirect your question to another aspect of their buildings.

Lumber quality has a huge impact on how a product is made.  Lumber is broken down into different grades, the lower number of the grade of lumber is a higher quality.  The better grade means less knots, less warping, and a stronger product.

This is the reason that at Pine Creek Structures we only utilize #2 or better premium grade lumber.  We need to ensure that the storage sheds will withstand the harsh New England Winters, and strong summer storms.  Other companies tend to use a lesser quality lumber, and staple shingles and collar ties.  We choose not to skimp on less expensive lumber, and nail these components to ensure longevity.

Stop by one of our many locations today and discover the value in person.

Shed Siding - Vinyl Vs. LP

Many customers often are torn between choosing the type of siding that they want.  We offer many different choices, such as cedar ship lap, board and batten, LP, vinyl siding, and log siding.  The two most popular are the LP siding along with the vinyl siding, so here's the run down.

Vinyl siding is a maintance free solution.  Unlike other different styles you will NEVER have to paint this product.  This results in a very popular choice among our patrons who want a shed and never want to have to worry about it.

Our vinyl siding is available in 8 standard colors as well as 13 optional colors in which additional charges may apply(you also have the option to match the siding color of your home!).  The product is backed by a limited lifetime warranty and a 50 year transferable warranty which protects it from manufacturing defects as well as excessive fading.

The biggest question when I mention the phrase, LP siding, is; What is LP?  Great questions because there is no reason for you to know what LP siding is!  LP is an engineered smart siding from Louisiana Pacific.  The product is a zinc borate infused OSB which is note prone to absorb waters or oils, is termite proof, resists fungal decay, is a natural insect repellent, and is basically the best wood based product on the market.

This is a paintable product in which we utilize Haley Paints.  This siding holds a 5/50 prorated warranty and it literally tough as nails,  Through the manufacturing process the fillers and glue create a greater density than conventional plywood.  This means a tighter product that will last for an excessively long time.

There are 19 colors to choose from, but here in Plainville we offer 7,000 colors so if you want to match your home you have the ability to.  So at the end of the day you may ask which do I want.

LP siding is less expensive than vinyl, but you WILL have to paint your shed at some point.  Unless you have small children then they will be painting the shed in 10 years, as that is the warranty on the paint.  If you are wanting to match the exact color of your building then usually LP is a far more cost effective way to do so.

All in all you want something that will look nice in your yard today, tomorrow, and when you sell.  In either case you will receive an exceptional product so it is really about personal preference and long term goals.

Stop by a Pine Creek Structures location and have one of our many managers show you the difference between our sidings.

Why write about hinges, why not? Lets face it, the doors on your shed are going to be used more than any other feature on your building. They will be left open on windy days, the kids will swing on them, and they are on the front line against those who wish to obtain access to your possessions.

That is why we use piano hinges on all of our heavy duty Duratemp sided buildings. The hinge spans the entire length of the door, which allows for the weight of the door to be dispersed evenly, rather than have three points that will absorb the abuse.

The piano hinge makes it much harder to gain access to your storage shed. Traditional hinges can be removed with nine screws.  Once the hinges are removed, the door can be taken off, and your assets just turned into an insurance claim, and became someone else's assets.

Behind the trim are 15-20 screws on each hinge. This means you can go to your local outdoor store, fill out the form, wait three days, pick up your firearm, and still be home before all of the screws are removed!! Piano hinges on our sheds are also aluminum which means they will never rust. You will never have to worry about rust stains over time which are nearly impossible to remove.

So stop by a Pine Creek Structures location today, and ask one of our Business Managers to show you how strong the piano hinges are.

There's tough, then there's Amish tough,

Built Just for You

One of the greatest features that Pine Creek Structures has to offer is the fact that if you can dream it, we can build it. Most of our locations have anywhere from 20 to 100 buildings in stock at any time. In Connecticut we have over fifty barns in stock ready for delivery.

If you need a shed right away, we will do our best to turn around stock orders in 2 to 3 business days. However, what happens if you want something a little different, what if you would like a unique door or window configuration, what if you need larger windows, or more points of entry?

Here at Pine Creek Structures, we are more than happy to customize a building to meet your specific needs. All you have to do is think about what your goals are when it comes to storage. On many occasions, I'll tell our customers to imagine you are at our manufacturing plant, how would you want them to build your shed.

Try not to limit yourself, as you are in complete control of the outcome. From the color of the shed, trim, shutters, roof, to door and window layout as well as any options you may need. Try to foresee future purchases, and build the shed around what those future needs will be.

Then, depending on the time of year, in about 3-4 weeks your shed arrives. Stop by our Plainville location today, and remember, if you can dream it, we can build it.

Multi Car Garages

Excluding this past winter - a garage is almost a necessity in New England. Many people love the thought of having a 2- car garage, but who likes the thought of spending $30k-$40k in order to accomplish it. Well, needless to say, we have an app for that.

Let me introduce you to our Richmond Series two car garage. The Richmond is one of the many structures that our construction division takes care of. Featuring 2x4 studs 16" on center, pressure treated sill plates, double top plates, engineered roof trusses, 2 9X7 insulated garage doors, one 9 light door, two windows, vinyl siding, and architectural shingles.

Sounds like a lot, as well as a hefty price tag. Are you sitting down??? You can have a 24x24 stick built on site for far less than you may anticipate -starting around $17,200 within 20 miles of our Berlin location!

Once the ground work is in place, the construction begins. How long will it take, 1-2 weeks?? Try 3-4 days from when the first nail is driven in, to the last shingle put into place. What are the benefits of having a garage?

The biggest one in my opinion is adding equity. You invest around 17K, and will reap nearly double that when it comes time to sell your home. It is such a worthy investment, I tell my customers you can make a living having us build a two car garage, then you sell, then you buy a new house, then you build a two car garage, then you sell....

So stop by a Pine Creek location today, and ask us about our Richmond Series.

Fresh Eggs?

More and more people are becoming interested in raising their own chickens. It proves to be a great hobby, and one that offers some beneficial aspects. As a result the industry has seen a significant increase in chicken coop sales over the past year.

You may ask yourself why would you want chickens, what the benefits are, or how much work it is to take care of them. Chickens are a great asset. For starters, as they roam about your yard, they eat flees, mosquitoes, and a variety of other insects. They also provide a great form of fertilizer as they explore your property.

Once your chickens are older, and you switch their food to start producing eggs, it is time to build a nesting box. The nesting box is where your hens will go to lay their eggs. Up to 8 chickens will share the same box, so it is not necessary for you to build one per chicken.

Each chicken on average will lay an egg a day. The amount of eggs produced is directly related to the amount of daylight that they receive. If you provide your chickens with a timed light in the winter months, they will still yield the same amount of eggs.

The egg itself is far different from the store bought egg. When you crack open an egg from your local market the yoke is a pale yellow. When you do the same with a fresh egg, the yoke is orange. The reason is most egg producers keep their chickens confined in small cages, and do not allow them to spend time outside in natural light. By interacting with the outdoors, it increased the health of the chicken, which in turn increased the health of the produced eggs.

Many do not know this, but you do not need a rooster for chickens to lay, only to fertilize the egg to produce more chicks. You also do not need a large coop as 4x4 coops can hold up to 10 chickens, 4x6 up to 15 chickens, and 6x8 up to 25 chickens.

If you have any questions, please send us a message on facebook - Pine Creek Structures Plaiville, or come to a Pine Creek location today and find the coop that fits your needs.

Enjoying fresh eggs,

Does Quality Matter?

When shopping for a shed do you consider the construction specifications of that structure? Well you should, and here are a few reasons why.

The winter of 2010-2011 – who can forget it!! Storm, after storm, after storm, after storm, after storm. My snow blower worked so hard it filed a grievance with the union!! Many people lost their sheds and for one reason, lack of structural integrity.

I was always told, you get what you pay for. I was also always told, buy the best and don’t mess with the rest. That is why our construction team takes pride with every structure that they build. With all of our standard structures, we use #1 grade lumber 16” on center, double top plates, double studded corners that all interlock at the corners.

The entire structure is built to last. That is why we offer some of the best warranties in the industry – Lifetime on the Timberline shingles, lifetime on all vinyl siding, 50 years on all LP Smart panel siding. That is also why none of our sheds collapsed with the 2010-2011 storms, and also why we tend to be the peoples’ choice when it comes to choosing a storage company.

Stop by a Pine Creek location today, and discover the value for yourself.

Spring Cleanup

Spring is right around the corner, and a much needed spring clean up is as well. Soon enough, we will all be out in our yards raking, planting, mulching, and before we know it, mowing. Many will be heading to the stores to purchase new patio furniture, new tools, maybe even a new mower.

We all love to buy, that's not a discussion, but a mere fact. We also at times fail to to think about where we intend to place all of our newly acquired toys. We may not even have to worry about that now, but come fall, our basements and garages are filled, we are out of room, and face yet another winter that we are clearing our cars off rather than pull them out from cover.

Sometimes it is better to be proactive rather than reactive. (actually most times it is) Rather than worry in late summer, when you should be at a bbq, or laying back with friends and family, why not take care of it now. Besides, companies offer spring specials not to mention new products that have been developed over the winter.

So get a jump on things, start the buying process early, and shop around. We encourage all of our customers to take a look at the competition, because we know our products have the highest warranties in the industry. Make sure that you compare apples with apples, and make sure you are receiving the best value possible. This will ensure you many years of reliability with you storage shed, or many years of relaxation with our furniture.

Stop by to see how can we can help you with your storage needs.

Rent To Own

Many people ask us, how does the Rent To Own program work - well, very successfully. Renting to own a shed is a great alternative to purchasing one out right. First off, the payments are affordable. By paying monthly, it isn't going to put a damper on your savings account, rather, you can make it part of your budget.

Another great aspect is NO CREDIT CHECK - that's right. Some think it is crazy, maybe we are, but even still, you deserve a second chance. Listen, everyone makes mistakes, let's just move on.

Guaranteed approval - another avenue less traveled, especially in today's economy. You can have no credit, little credit, bad credit, you still walk out with a new order or a stock building.

This is my favorite part, when I get to tell people where the money goes. Our rent to own program is head up by a company called Good Shepherd Rentals. Good Shepherd knows that they have a decision and can do what ever they like with their money, and the decision they have made is a wonderful one.

Their profits go to run an orphanage in South America. They realize, when you are blessed, it is up to you to take care of the less fortunate. Personally, I applaud their efforts, as well as their integrity to step up and and to do what is right.

So that is a little about our rent to own program - stop by or give us a call with any questions.

Self Storage Vs. Storage Sheds

There comes a time in life, when we run out of room. It is at that moment, that we do what most people think - throw out what we no longer need, and conclude, that there is still not enough room. So we weigh our options.

We drive through town, and notice a self storage facility. At last, an answer to our problem.....or is it. What many perceive as a good idea at the time, turns into a regret in the long run. Here are some reasons why it can hurt you and your wallet in the long run.

Your in your house and need a wrench or screwdriver. You begin to think, where is my tool box. Oh yeah, in the storage facility. You proceed to get into your car, drive 5 miles across town, open the door to your facility, and see a filled storage unit, with boxes all over the place. It then dawns on you, your toolbox is in the basement of your home under the work bench. You get back into your car, drive home, and are more than frustrated.

This occurrence will happen, and not only will it take place once, but it will continue to occur more and more the longer you rent the unit. If you think you are enraged the first time, wait until the 4th or 5th time that it happens.

Another down side of storage units, you pay, and you pay, and you pay, FOREVER!!! You will never own the storage unit, you will more than likely out grow it, need a larger one, and then have to pay even more.

When you purchase a storage shed, it is owned by you, it is on your property, and even if you finance it, one day the payments will stop and it will be there forever. There is no second guessing what you stored, you simply go into your backyard and look.

Some may think that cost is an obstacle, but in our case, we have Rent to Own sheds starting with monthly payments of $68 - that nearly the cost of a cup of coffee a day, and the best part is, after 3 years, it is yours.

Feel free to let us know if you have any questions, or if we can help you in any way.
